Counselor

Dear Parents,

Hello and welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! My name is Andrea Jester, and I am the school counselor at Franklin Academy. I am so looking forward to meeting and working with your child.

WHO IS A COUNSELOR?

A counselor is someone who listens and doesn’t judge how you speak, or what you say, or what you are feeling. A counselor listens when you are feeling lonely, sad, happy, or mad. When something worries you so much that you really can’t talk about it to anyone, the counselor is there for you. When you are worried, confused, down, or put down, talk with your counselor. When school doesn’t seem to by working out or when you are getting into arguments see your counselor.

I am here for you. I am here for your family, too. If you ever need me, all you need to do is let me know. We will talk a bit, or maybe just take a walk together and see what happens. I teach character classes, so check my schedule to see when I am available.

My goals as an elementary counselor are to help children understand themselves and others, to prevent problems from developing, to provide crisis intervention, and to coordinate or facilitate efforts by outside agencies.

I hope to help ALL children to get the most positive experience from school. Come and visit me. Your support and cooperation can help to make your child’s school years a rewarding experience. If you have any questions throughout the school year, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best   Wishes,

 Andrea Jester, NCC, NCSC

Why Elementary School Counselors?

Elementary school years set the tone for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skill necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, school counselors work as a team with the school staff, parents and the community to create a caring climate and atmosphere. By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, school counselors can help all children achieve academic success. The elementary school counselor holds a master's degree and required state certification in school counseling. Maintaining certification includes on-going professional development to stay current with education reform and challenges facing today's students. Professional association membership enhances the school counselor's knowledge and effectiveness.
