The Rotary Club of Columbus recently donated $1410.00 to the “Reading, Riding, and ‘Rithmetic” Bicycle Program at Franklin Academy. Coach Gooch uses dvds from Bike-o-Vision so that students in grades 3-5 can travel the world! The bikes are made stationary by a trainer stand on the back wheel. Students study a US or World map before taking off on their “pretend” trip to places like the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, the Hawaiian Islands, Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Tetons, or even cities in France or Italy! Distance, mileage, and potential costs, etc of making a real trip to these destinations is discussed prior to the trip. Information regarding the program, along with a news clip from WCBI, can be seen on the bike-o-vision.com website under the “Kids” icon. Franklin Academy is the company’s model school! A big thank you goes out to the Rotary Club for making this donation. The funds will be used to purchase bikes and trainers that will keep the program going at full class capacity!
